You hold it down at work. You show up for your family. You handle what needs handling. And somewhere in all of that, nobody asks how you are doing. This is a place where you can set the weight down for an hour and figure out what is really going on underneath it.

"Our very survival depends on our ability to stay awake, to adjust to new ideas, to remain vigilant and to face the challenge of change."
Most of the men I work with are not falling apart. From the outside, they are doing fine. But inside there is a short fuse that keeps costing them, stress that never fully shuts off, a marriage or relationship that feels distant, a drink or a habit that has quietly become a crutch, or a numbness they cannot explain.
Sound familiar? You were probably taught to handle things yourself. To keep it moving. That works until it does not.
Talking to someone is not weakness. It is what strong people do when the old way stops working.
Anger that shows up faster and hotter than you want it to.
Stress, pressure, and burnout that never let up.
Anxiety and racing thoughts.
Depression, low motivation, or feeling numb.
Relationship and family strain.
Alcohol and substance use you want honest answers about.
Grief, loss, and major life transitions.
Figuring out who you are outside of what you do for everyone else.

I am Malton Cook Jr., a licensed counselor and the founder of Overcomer's Counseling & Associates (OCA). I am a Black therapist who works primarily with men, and I built this practice because I know how rare it is for men, especially men of color, to have a space where they do not have to translate themselves. You will not get judgment here, and you will not get someone nodding silently at you for an hour either. You will get real conversation, practical tools, and a therapist who respects where you come from.
I have spent my career in hospitals, dual diagnosis treatment, and integrated primary care before building this telehealth practice. I draw from CBT, motivational interviewing, EMDR, somatic work, and other approaches, and I fit the work to you, not the other way around.
More about me and how I work →Book a free 15 minute consultation. No paperwork, no pressure. We talk, you ask questions, and you decide if it feels like a fit.
We go at your pace. You do not have to have the right words or a plan. My job is to make the first session easier than you expect it to be.
We set goals that matter to you and build from there. Sessions are online, secure, and private, from wherever you are comfortable.
Sessions are $130 for a session of up to 50 minutes. Most of my clients pay privately, which keeps your care completely between us: no diagnosis required for your record, no insurance company reviewing your file, and no limits on how we work.
